GAO Prices helps people check and share current prices in their area. This policy explains what information we collect, why we use it and the choices available to you when you use our website or Android app.

Information we collect

• Account information: If you sign in, we may receive your account identifier, name and email address from the sign-in provider.
• Price and business submissions: We collect the item, price, quantity, category, market, state, area and other details you choose to report.
• Optional photo evidence: If you choose to attach a photo of an item or receipt, we store it securely to verify the price report. Photo evidence is not displayed publicly.
• Community activity: We record confirmations, reports of incorrect information and moderation activity linked to your account.
• Technical information: Our hosting and security providers may process basic device, browser, IP-address and request-log information needed to operate, protect and troubleshoot the service.

How we use information

• Display and compare community-reported prices.
• Manage accounts, submissions and business listings.
• Detect suspicious, inaccurate or abusive reports.
• Maintain security, reliability and service performance.
• Respond to privacy, support and legal requests.

What is public

Price details, market names and general areas submitted for publication may be visible to everyone. We do not publicly display a contributor's email address with a price report.

Sharing and service providers

We do not sell personal information. We may share information with hosting, authentication, security and infrastructure providers only as needed to run GAO Prices. We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect users, the public or the service.

Data retention and deletion

We keep information only for as long as reasonably needed to provide the service, preserve price-history integrity, prevent abuse and meet legal obligations. To request access, correction or deletion of personal information associated with your account, follow the steps on our account and data deletion page. Some records may be retained where required for security, fraud prevention or law.

Permissions and device features

GAO Prices does not collect precise device location, contacts or microphone recordings. The optional photo-evidence feature opens your device camera or photo picker only when you tap it. You can remove the selected photo before submitting the report.

Children's privacy

GAO Prices is a general-audience service and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. A parent or guardian who believes a child supplied personal information may contact us to request its removal.

Security and international use

We use reasonable safeguards designed to protect information. No online system is completely secure. Information may be processed in countries other than the country where you live, subject to applicable protections.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as GAO Prices develops. The effective date at the top of this page will show when it was last updated.
